PLAY & COLOR LAYERING
In June, Nicci's teaching a workshop at Tiger Lily Press, in the schoolhouse studio nestled into a bend of woods at Dunham Recreation Center.
The first day (Saturday June 9) is a color play day, full of experimentation and no-press, nontoxic printmaking with Gelli plates & acrylic paints. We'll investigate layering, using stencils, how various types of acrylic behave on the plate, unique effects achieved playing with drying time, new color combinations, & printing on various papers from found paper to tissue to rag.
Day 2 (Sunday June 10) is a day for using those papers to make simple bound books—mini sketchbooks, notebooks, blank books for gifts, or books to serve as bases for art journaling. Participants may bring along old prints, colorful papers, ephemera, and decorative papers to add to their books.
No printmaking or bookbinding experience is required! Participants need bring nothing other than themselves & any papers or stencils they'd like to try. The workshop is limited to 6 participants, and is $85 for folks who aren't members of Tiger Lily Press. Materials fee is included in this price.
Tiger Lily will provide a few sheets of 9 x 12 inch, 70#, 114gsm brown paper to start, though you'll likely want a few sheets of other sorts of papers. Porous papers work best, either hot or cold press. You may also enjoy trying a few sheets of tissue paper.
GELLI PLATE PRINTING INTO SIMPLE BOUND BOOKS
Saturday and Sunday, June 9 & 10; 1-4pm
During the first session, participants use hand pressure (no press!), acrylic paints, and Gelli plates to make colorful, intuitive monoprints and papers. This is an ideal process for experimentation and building a body of custom collage material, chine-collé papers, art journal pages and finished prints. The second day will be devoted to learning simple stitching, and creating a variety of handbound art journals using your monoprints and printed papers.
$85 non-members, $70 members
